# Kakariko Village & Lost Woods — Ocarina of Time remake (Switch 2)

Chapter 4 · Child Link · Overworld. Updated Nov 1, 2026.

Deliver Zelda's Letter in Kakariko Village to open the road up Death Mountain, and explore the graveyard for a sturdier shield and a new song. Then head back to the forest and find Saria in her secret meadow.

**Goal:** Open the gate to Death Mountain, then learn Saria's Song in the Sacred Forest Meadow.

**Rewards:** Saria's Song, Hylian Shield, Sun's Song, Bottle

## 1. Kakariko Village

1. Head to the northeast corner of Hyrule Field and climb the stone steps into Kakariko Village, at the foot of Death Mountain.
2. Make your way up through the village to the gate onto Death Mountain Trail. Show the guard Zelda's Letter by using it from your item menu while standing in front of him.
3. He chuckles at the princess's note but opens the gate. He also mentions that his son would love a Keaton Mask.
4. (Tip) Showing the letter also opens the Happy Mask Shop in Hyrule Market. Borrow the Keaton Mask, sell it to this guard, and you start a mask-selling side quest that eventually earns the useful Mask of Truth.
5. (Watch out) The guard suggests a sturdier shield, and he's right. Get the Hylian Shield in the graveyard before Dodongo's Cavern, because flames there can burn the Deku Shield to ash.

## 2. Around the Village

1. Talk to the Cucco Lady beside her pen. She's allergic to her own birds and has lost seven of them; find each one and toss it back into the pen.
2. (Tip) Carrying a Cucco lets you glide down from high places, which helps you reach the birds stranded on rooftops and ledges.
3. (You get) Return all seven to receive an empty Bottle. Use it to carry fairies, bugs and potions.
4. (Collectible) Kakariko has five Gold Skulltulas, all out at night: in the big tree near the entrance (roll into it), on the House of Skulltula, in the building under construction, on the house beside the Death Mountain gate, and on the watchtower ladder (use the Slingshot).
5. (Tip) Bring Gold Skulltula tokens to the House of Skulltula. A family there is cursed, and every 10 tokens earns a reward, starting with a bigger wallet.

## 3. Kakariko Graveyard

1. The graveyard lies past the windmill at the edge of the village.
2. (Watch out) A boy watches over the graves during the day, so you can only pull back headstones at night.
3. At night, go to the lower part of the graveyard and pull back the second headstone from the left, the one with flowers in front of it. Drop into the hole and open the chest.
4. (You get) You obtain the Hylian Shield. It's too big for a child, so you crouch behind it like a turtle shell, but fire can't burn it.
5. Dampé the gravekeeper runs his Heart-Pounding Gravedigging Tour at night. Pay 10 Rupees, point to a dirt patch, and he digs it up.
6. (Collectible) Piece of Heart: one of Dampé's dig spots can turn one up. The prizes are random, so it may take several tries.

## 4. Optional: The Royal Family's Tomb

1. At the back of the graveyard, stand on the Triforce symbol in front of the large tombstone and play Zelda's Lullaby. Lightning blasts the stone apart; jump into the hole.
2. In the first room, shoot down every Keese with the Slingshot. The door unbars once they're all gone.
3. (Watch out) The next room is home to ReDeads. Their scream freezes you in place so they can grab you, so give them a wide berth and walk past carefully.
4. (You get) At the end, an inscription on the wall teaches you the Sun's Song.
5. (Tip) Play the Sun's Song to switch between day and night, so you never have to wait for nightfall again. It also freezes ReDeads in their tracks.
6. (Collectible) Piece of Heart: at night, pull back the grave fourth from the right in the top row and drop in. Deal with the ReDead below, then play the Sun's Song to make a chest appear.
7. (Collectible) Gold Skulltula: drop a bug from a Bottle on the soft soil patch in the graveyard.

## 5. Through the Lost Woods

1. The Goron leader won't be easy to win over, and Saria can help. Travel back across Hyrule Field to Kokiri Forest and enter the Lost Woods through its entrance in the village.
2. (Tip) Mido has no part to play right now, but remember him. Seven years from now he'll guard this route, and only Saria's Song will get you past.
3. The Lost Woods is a maze of clearings linked by hollow-log passages. Take a wrong exit and you end up back at the entrance.
4. Listen to the music. In every clearing, the correct exit is the one where the melody gets louder; follow it each time.
5. (Tip) If you'd rather have it written down, the route from the Kokiri Forest entrance is: right, left, right, left, straight ahead, left, right.
6. Partway through, Kaepora Gaebora perches in a clearing and reminds you to trust your ears.

## 6. Sacred Forest Meadow

1. The route ends at a barred gate. As you approach, a Wolfos leaps out to stop you.
2. The Wolfos blocks sword swings from the front, so dodge its swipe, then hit it from the side or behind. Beating it opens the gate.
3. Beyond is a hedge maze patrolled by Mad Scrubs that pop up and spit nuts. Reflect them with your shield and keep moving toward the staircase at the far end.
4. Two more Scrubs guard the top of the stairs. Clear them and walk into the clearing beyond, where Saria sits on a tree stump in front of an old ruin.
5. (You get) Saria is glad you found her secret place. Take out your ocarina when she starts to play, and she teaches you Saria's Song.
6. (Tip) Play Saria's Song anywhere to talk to Saria through your ocarina. She offers advice when you're unsure where to go.
7. (Tip) On the way out, climb the ladder on the maze wall to skip the maze. Up top, drop through a hole into a fairy fountain to heal and catch a fairy in a Bottle.

## 7. Lost Woods Extras

1. (Collectible) Piece of Heart: near the start of the Lost Woods, a Skull Kid plays a flute on a tree stump. Stand on the stump below him and play Saria's Song; he's so pleased he gives you a Piece of Heart.
2. (Collectible) Piece of Heart: stand on the stump below the target near the start of the Lost Woods, and two Skull Kids challenge you to copy their tunes. Clear all three rounds to win it.
3. (Tip) Hit the bullseye of that target with the Slingshot three times in a row to win a bigger Deku Seed bag.
4. (Tip) A Business Scrub near the Lost Woods' bridge to Hyrule Field sells a Deku Stick capacity upgrade for 40 Rupees once you've knocked him out of his hole.

## Gold Skulltulas nearby

- **Soft Soil Near the Forest Bridge** (Lost Woods; Child Link; needs Bugs (Bottle)): From the Kokiri Forest entrance, take the left path twice to reach the clearing beside the bridge. Release bugs from a bottle onto the soft soil and defeat the Skulltula that emerges.
- **Soft Soil by the Business Scrubs** (Lost Woods; Child Link; needs Bugs (Bottle)): Head toward the Forest Stage (right, left, right, left, then left from the entrance) to the clearing with two Business Scrubs. Release bugs from a bottle onto the soft soil there and slash the Skulltula.
- **Tree at the Village Entrance** (Kakariko Village; Child Link, night only): At night, roll into the large tree just inside the village entrance. Slash the Skulltula that falls out and grab the token.
- **Outer Wall of the House of Skulltula** (Kakariko Village; Child Link, night only): At night, walk around the outside of the House of Skulltula and check its rear wall. Attack the Skulltula there and pick up the token.
- **Construction Site Brick Pile** (Kakariko Village; Child Link, night only): At night, look at the stacked bricks in the middle of the house that is still being built. Strike the Skulltula clinging to them to earn the token.
- **House Near the Death Mountain Gate** (Kakariko Village; Child Link, night only): At night, check the side wall of the house closest to the gate leading up to Death Mountain Trail. Defeat the Skulltula and collect the token.
- **Watchtower Ladder** (Kakariko Village; Child Link, night only; needs Fairy Slingshot): At night, spot the Skulltula partway up the ladder of the wooden watchtower. Knock it off with the Fairy Slingshot, then climb the ladder to reach the token.
- **High Wall Near the Royal Tomb** (Kakariko Graveyard; Child Link, night only; needs Boomerang): At night, look high on the right-hand wall near the Royal Family's Tomb. Throw the Boomerang to kill the Skulltula and retrieve its token.
- **Soft Soil Among the Graves** (Kakariko Graveyard; Child Link; needs Bugs (Bottle)): Release bugs from a bottle onto the soft soil on the left side of the graveyard. Defeat the Skulltula that crawls out and take the token.

## Pieces of Heart nearby

- **Skull Kid's Stump Duet** (Lost Woods; Child Link; needs Saria's Song): Take the left path from the Kokiri Forest entrance to find a Skull Kid perched on a tall stump. Stand on the small stump facing him and play Saria's Song; he plays along and rewards you with the piece.
- **Skull Kids' Ocarina Memory Game** (Lost Woods; Child Link; needs Fairy Ocarina): Go right from the entrance and drop down to the stump where two Skull Kids play their flutes. Repeat each phrase they play back to them; clear the third and longest round to win the piece.
- **Impa's House Cow Pen** (Kakariko Village; Either age; needs Owl ride (child) or Hookshot (adult)): Get onto the small ledge at the back of Impa's House: as a child, ride the owl down from the summit of Death Mountain and drop onto it; as an adult, Hookshot across the rooftops. Go through the opening into the cow's pen to grab the piece.
- **Windmill Alcove** (Kakariko Village; Either age; needs Boomerang (child) or Song of Time (adult)): The piece sits in a high alcove inside the windmill. As a child, throw the Boomerang at it from the stairs; as an adult, come in on the upper floor from the end of Dampé's race (play the Song of Time to clear the block) and jump from the turning platform.
- **Man on the Roof** (Kakariko Village; Either age; needs Hookshot (adult)): A man lounges on a rooftop beside the lookout tower; climb up and talk to him for the piece. As a child, climb the tower and side-jump onto the edge of his roof, which takes practice; as an adult, simply Hookshot up.
- **House of Skulltula: 50 Tokens** (Kakariko Village; Either age; needs 50 Gold Skulltula tokens): Collect 50 Gold Skulltula tokens and visit the House of Skulltula. The family member you free at that milestone hands you the piece.
- **Heart Piece Grave (ReDead)** (Kakariko Graveyard; Either age; needs Sun's Song): In the back row of graves, pull back the second stone from the right and drop into the hole. Freeze or avoid the ReDead, then play the Sun's Song to make a chest holding the piece appear.
- **Dampé's Gravedigging Tour** (Kakariko Graveyard; Child Link; needs 10 Rupees per dig): Between 6 PM and 9 PM, pay Dampé 10 Rupees and have him dig on a patch of bare soil. The piece turns up at random, so keep trying different spots.
